Jiangsu University Library (JUL), consisting of the main library, the branch library on Mengxi campus, the branch library on Beigu campus, Jingjiang College branch library and four reference rooms located in schools of Humanities, Foreign languages, Management, and Arts, has developed into a comprehensive university library. Both the main library and the branch libraries are operated on the same integrated management system which provides coordinated loan and return services.

With a total area of 43,969square meters and more than 4000 reading seats, the main library provides a beautiful environment and comprehensive services and facilities. There are 17 reading rooms, 28 study rooms, 2 seminar rooms and the Library Bar. It is also built with several information exchange spaces such as the Remote Video Conference Room, the Multi-functional Auditorium, the Air Classroom, etc.

The library holds an abundance of collections and resources covering almost all subject fields such as Humanities, Natural and Social Sciences, Applied Technology, etc.

By the end of December, 2016, the library has collected 3,140,000 paper books, 1,770,000 e-books, 2995 kinds of newspapers, 48,000 electronic newspapers and periodicals, 75 full-text databases and 16 secondary document databases. In addition, there is a self-built characteristic literature database in Vehicle Engineering and the Pearl S. Buck literature database. “The International Pearl S. Buck Resource Center” now has collected the largest number of her original works and the literature written by or about her at home and abroad. “Jiangsu University Collected Works” has a fine collection of thousands of original manuscripts and notes of teaching preparations by experienced teachers and professors. It also has on display, more than 7,000 books donated by Mr. Li Lanqing, former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, vice-premier of the China State Council.

The library consists of: Administration Office, Resources Development Department(Teaching Materials Section), Circulation and Reference Department, Rare Books & Special Collections Department, Web Service Department, Discipline Service Department, Scientific Information Institute. We have a formal staffstrength of 112, including 6 with a senior professional title, 21 with a vice-senior professional title, 58 with an intermediate title, 9 with a doctoral degree, 36 with a master or dual degree. There are also 39 supernumerary employees in the library.

Upholding the principle of “reader and service come first”, the library provides an open mode of services integrated with books collection and circulation, information search and enquiries, as well as talents education, which has been and will continue to provide high quality and efficient services of information and resources for the teaching and research in Jiangsu University. ESI analysis and assessment provides the provincial education department and universities with information consultant on discipline construction. Yi Bai Te (Zhenjiang) Information Service Co.Ltd provides services of patent analysis, patent agency,decision consultation and system development for companies and universities. Based on HSK, ACCA test centre, Yale School, the library has played an important roal in expanding students’ horizons and promoting their international competence. Research achievements of the Information Behavior Analysis Laboratory, the first one of its field nationwide, have been shown gradually. The quality and level ofLibrary and Information Studies,a self-created academic journal, has constantly been enhanced and improved.
