A. COURSE DESCRIPTION
1 credit, 20 Class Hours, 1st Semester etc.
This course is committed to helping students master the basic knowledge of professional English, including professional vocabulary application technology, oral academic communication skills through English and translation ability on scientific and technological literature. This course at the same time pay attention to cultivate graduates’ English using skills, combined with their academic research works, on written and oral communication ability, academic reading and translation of professional literature and information archives, cultivate students in academic activities concerning foreign affairs in written and oral communication, and lay a foundation for further improvement of their ability of international communication. In ideological education, this course aims to cultivate students' interest in learning, help them build up self-confidence and develop good study habits. Help graduates understand the cultural differences between the east and the west, cultivate the spirit of patriotism, build up the awareness of cultural exchange and mutual learning and international vision, and lay a good language foundation for students to enter the society and carry out future study and scientific research.
B. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
This course is based on lecture method, supplemented by classroom report on English literature reading and translation, simulated academic oral report, and English academic papers writing skills report, to comprehensively exercise and improve graduates' professional English listening, speaking, reading and writing ability.
C. COURSE OBJECTIVES(five or six objectives; general but comprehensive)
Objective 1:On the basis of English teaching for postgraduates, students are required to master the basic knowledge of professional English through 12 hours of teaching, including professional vocabulary using ability, oral English academic communication skills and scientific literature translation ability.
Objective 2:This course focus on cultivating students’ practical ability of English using in terms of academic literature written and oral communication, academic reading and translation of professional literature and archives, and build a foundation for further improving the ability of international communication.
Objective 3:This course cultivates students’ interest in self-learning and help students to build up self-confidence and positive study habits; To help students understand cultural differences and build up students’ awareness of cultural exchanges and mutual learning.

F. GRADING PLAN
1. In-class participation (40%): (1) Full attendance; (2) Active participation in class discussion.
Research paper (60%): (1) At least 2000 words; (2) Complete article structure; (3) Good topics and innovation; (4) Compliance with academic ethics, no plagiarism.
2. Grading standards: (1) 60~70: Can basically complete the teaching tasks and assignments of this course and appropriately use the specialty English for LIS.
(2) 71~80: Can complete the teaching content and tasks of this course and have a relatively comprehensive understanding of specialty English for LIS.
(3) 81~90: Can well complete the teaching tasks of this course and have a comprehensive understanding of specialty English for LIS.
(4) 91~100: Can perfectly complete the teaching tasks of this course and expertly use specialty English for LIS in academic research.

Requirements: Graduate students are required to understand the reading skills of English academic articles, learn English academic information and knowledge resources through speed reading and intensive reading, and understand the international academic frontier and hot spots. At the same time, skilled in English literature translation methods. One oral presentation in English literature reading and translation need to be prepared by the end of class.
Chapter 3 Management of library and information system (3 class hours)

Requirements: The graduates clearly understand the basic rules, skills and chapter structure of English literature writing. On the basis of reading English literature, graduates need to organize the writing methods of English papers and present an oral report.
