On the afternoon of November 18,2023, the 117th "Cross-Culture Park" exchange activity, which was hosted by the Jiangsu University Graduate Student Union and jointly organized by the Graduate Association of Institute of Science and Technology Information, the Graduate Association of School of Mechanical Engineering, the Graduate Student Association of School of Marxism and the Graduate Student Association of School of Energy and Power Engineering, was successfully held in Jingjiang Building 2102. The theme of this activity is "Casting Jiangnan Rhyme with an Oilpaper Umbrella, Tracing a Millennium of Inherited Skills". By watching the oil-paper umbrella making video, guessing with prizes, performing film and television drama segments and reading relevant paper, students can feel the intangible cultural heritage, and help Chinese and foreign students to communicate and exchange.
At the beginning of the activity, the two hosts delivered a welcome speech and introduced the theme "Casting Jiangnan Rhyme with an Oilpaper Umbrella, Tracing a Millennium of Inherited Skills". Afterwards, the students watched the video of oilpaper umbrella and deeply felt the unique charm of intangible cultural heritage.
In the following session, the students actively shared their cognition of oilpaper umbrella. The game---guessing with prizes pushed the atmosphere to a climax, which greatly stimulated the students to participate.
Then, in the section of the film and television segments, the students felt the charm of this traditional craft more intuitively by watching the film clips related to the oil-paper umbrella. Several Chinese and foreign students also performed the film and television section on the stage, showing the diversity of the oilpaper umbrella culture.
In the process of making oilpaper umbrella, the students made it in groups, showing their own creativity and unique style. Afterwards, they showed their finished products on the stage, and took photos.
At last, the activity had an academic session. The host shared a relevant paper so that the students can better understand the value of oilpaper umbrella culture.
After the activity, the host invited all students to take a group photo and interviewed some Chinese and foreign students. They all said that the activity was a great success. This activity not only help students to understand the intangible cultural heritage such as oilpaper umbrella making, but also promote the friendship between Chinese and foreign students, and enrich their graduate life!
