In order to ensure the smooth development of the dissertation progress and graduate degree awarding work for the international student GODWIN DZANGARE, the Institute of Science and Technology Information held the Dissertation Defense in the Library Conference Room 612 on June 25th, 2023.
We were honored to invite professor Lu Zhangping as the President of the Defense Committee, and also as the dissertation defense host. We were honored to invite Liu Jing, who is the deputy director of the Jiangsu University Library and the dean of graduate education of the Institute of Science and Technology Information, Liu Guifeng, who is the director of Institute of Science and Technology Information, associate professor Wang Meng, and associate research librarian Su wencheng as important members of the Defense Committee. Also, Jia Huizhen served as the secretary for the graduation defense.
GODWIN DZANGARE, who is 2020 international postgraduate student, intended to apply for a master degree. He paid close attention to international students’ health information literacy about the thesis topic. The dissertation was entitled “Research on the Construction of Health Information Literacy Evaluation System for International Students in Chinese Universities”. He conducted the defense in detail from research background, introduction to research problems and questions, research objects and innovative points in the study. Then he elaborated on literature review on health literacy, information literacy and health information literacy. Followed the research theories which were applied for supporting the research framework. He also introduced the research design at length to the members of the defense committee. The part of empirical analysis presented the conceptual model and hypotheses of health information literacy to improve international students’ information ability. He put forward the innovative points and proposals on how to improve international students’ health information literacy by the research model in the application strategy part.
President Lu Zhangping and members of the Defense Committee exchanged ideas with GODWIN DZANGARE and raised several questions about the research problems and research model. Also, the experts put forward series of suggestions on thesis framework, thesis format, chapter titles, reference documents and so on for modifying the dissertation. In addition, the defense committee recommended GODWIN DZANGARE revise the thesis and make progress in academic research. Then the student answered the questions raised by the committee one by one.
It was with pleasure that President of the defence committee Professor Lu Zhangping declared the result of the voting for the thesis defense. The committee unanimously vote “Yes” to GODWIN DZANGARE’s thesis defense. The thesis defense was well-received by the defence committee, and GODWIN DZANGARE successfully passed the graduation thesis defense. The thesis defense for the international postgraduate enhanced the development of international students’ research work.
