A. COURSE DESCRIPTION

Credits:2 credits;

Scheduled Teaching hours:24 Class Hours;

Opening semester:1st Semester.

Course Description: The course is suitable for Master degree candidates in many disciplines such as Library Information and Archives Management, Documentation Science, Secretarial Science, Information Management and Information Systems.The course mainly explainsthe value and function of archives, the basic principles of archival work, archives management agencies and the archives management system of our country; The course systematically teaches all aspects of archives management such as collection, arrangement, appraisal, statistics, preservation, retrieval, compilation and utilization; The course details the Principle of Provenance, Theory of Record’s Life Cycle, and the records appraisal theories. The course teaches archival legislation when relevant knowledge points are explained. Through the course, students can systematically master the professional knowledge, basic theories and archival regulations. The course can cultivate and improve students' archival consciousness and archival literacy, and lay a solid foundation for students to engage in records and archives management or archives research in party and government organs, enterprises and institutions.

B. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION

The course mainly adopts the following two teaching methods. One is the case teaching method. The course adopts a large number of cases to explain the relevant knowledge points in order to impress students with knowledge points, help them understand knowledge points deeply and digest them in time. The case teaching method will be used in the following knowledge points: the value of archives, the significance of archives management, archives collection, archives retrieval, archives appraisal and archives utilization. The other teaching method is the practical inquiry method in order to let students deepen their understanding and absorb theoretical knowledge through hands-on operation. For example, when teaching the rules of archives arrangement, let the students draw up the classification scheme of archival entities of a certain unit, so that they can analyze problems, find problems and solve problems in specific situations; When teaching the retrieval language, let students search directly in the retrieval system, let them feel the difference between subject retrieval language and classification retrieval language, let them understand the characteristics and advantages and disadvantages between the two retrieval languages; Let the students search directly in the keyword retrieval system and the thematic words retrieval system to understand the difference between the non-normalized subject retrieval language and the standardized subject retrieval language and their respective advantages and disadvantages. To provide students with a certain number of records, let them carry out classification indexing and subject indexing, through practical operations to understand the retrieval language and indexing rules.
