At 2 pm on November 5, 2019, a lecture on the Innovation in American Library and Information Education and Development was conducted by Ms Ruan Lian, director of the Library of the Illinois Fire Service Training Institute in the conference room on the sixth floor of the library. Ms Ruan was awarded the President of the University of Science and Technology Award, the American Chinese Librarian Association Outstanding Service Award, the Illinois Academic Librarian Award and the American Colored Librarian Alliance Advocacy Award. 

The main content of the lecture is the development and evolution of the library and information science in the United States, the subject construction, the research direction, and the postgraduate training. The information school of the University of Illinois is used as an example. The lecture consisted of two parts. The first part was about the innovation of American library information education. It introduced the undergraduate program, the master's degree program, the master of library information, etc. Ms Ruan also introduced the LIS education, Library and Information Science Alliance, Career Development Support Office, etc. of the United States in detail. The second part was about the development of the Information School of University of Illinois. She stressed that library and information cannot be separated from practice and innovation. Liu Jing, Vice Director of Jiangsu University Library, summarized that the lecture mentioned the challenges faced by American library and information and the changes made in the face of these challenges. These practices also serve as a reference for the development of Chinese library and information science.
